Dressing the Part for Work

It’s important to dress appropriately when working. It not only ensures that the worker looks professional at all times, it also means that he or she can be confident enough in their appearance to be taken seriously in their field.

Most people, when asked to think about workwear, will immediately think about office wear but, these days, it’s not just office workers that need to be well-dressed. Even truck drivers today are well turned-out, usually with smart polo shirts in summer, and fleeces for the winter, all bearing the company logo, ensuring that the name is well represented.

Most employers today expect their employees to dress appropriately for the work itself. In the case of office workers, this means smart dresses and suits for women, taking great care to ensure that the clothing worn is not the type that would be worn in a nightclub on a Saturday night. This includes footwear, too. While the wearer might feel more ‘dressed up’ in high heels, these would be inappropriate for a day in the office, and would create the wrong impression when representing the company to clients or customers.

For men, an office environment demands a suit which, with a smart collar and tie worn underneath, ensures that he still looks professional with the jacket removed on warmer days.  As with women’s wear, shoes are very important.  Trainers may feel more comfortable and, indeed, can be worn on the journey to and from work, but proper shoes, well-polished and maintained, will complement any suit.

Dressing correctly for the job in hand works wonders for the morale. To do a good job, a worker needs to feel in command of his work, and able to create a great impression to colleagues and customers alike – dressing appropriately and smartly will ensure that he is more than able to do just that.
