Things to consider when buying shower enclosures

Posted By on August 17, 2011

Shower enclosures – often referred to as just “the shower” in daily conversation, are an important design feature of any bathroom. You wouldn’t think that much consideration should go into them – after all, to some people they are only there to stop the rest of the bathroom getting soaked – but there are ways and means of altering or adding to them to make a merely functional bathroom into an ideal one.

Mostly, these considerations depend on who is going to be using the shower. If it’s a whole family, then maybe a power shower head should be fitted with a powerful pump, so people take less time in there. You can also customise shower heads to your design preferences – did you know that they don’t have to be round, and you can get square ones too? Other shower accessories you could consider, for example, are handles or grips for a more elderly or disabled shower user, to improve the accessibility of the shower unit overall.

The material you choose for the enclosure also needs to be thought about. Some of us are modest, even when living with a partner – and might want a frosted or semi-opaque finish. Others want something that’s easy to clean, and more of us still aren’t bothered if the shower resembles a plain sheet of glass or plastic, to make our bathroom look more spacious.

Overall, there is more than meets the eye when it comes to choosing the look and design of a shower enclosure. Once you factor in the materials and accessories, it can more accurately reflect the kind of bathroom you really want.
