What Makes a Welding Helmet Good?
Posted By Lauren Ryan on July 28, 2011
To the man on the street, all welding helmets look pretty much alike. But professional welders know that all welding helmets are not created equally. These hard working professionals know what they’re talking about. Every day they, literally, trust the safety of their eyeballs to their helmets.
That’s why they think nothing of spending hundreds of dollars on high tech, name brand products like Jackson welding helmets. These high tech helmets incorporate a number of high tech features that the non welding public couldn’t imagine.
For example, most welders these days use an auto darkening welding helmet. This battery powered innovation darkens the tint on the helmet’s visor to adjust for external factors like sunlight and job site flood lights. Because the welder itself puts out such tremendous light, this modern innovation greatly improves the welder’s accuracy and ability to make detailed welds.
Working with a welding torch is not something that most welders take lightly. They know that exposing the naked eye to light from a welding torch, even for a few moments, can cause serious burns. That’s why they count on name brands like Miller welding helmets to keep their eyes safe.
All that welding gear may look the same to the layman, but there’s a big difference between serious eye protection and “not enough eye protection.”
